Aokigahara Forest, better known as Suicide Forest is found in the base of Mt. Fuji. It was formed by in the year 864 due to the dried lava. It was named "Jukai" or "Sea of trees". The name of the place is Aokigahara but people started calking it as "Jukai" because it was like a green ocean when seen from the far. It is green all year round. A long time ago in Japan, Suicide is an act of a Samurai, also called "Seppuko". They weren't killing theirselves because of how society treats them and all the happenings right now is a modern phenomenon.
In the forest, there were signages to convince people to stop from the act of suicide. The signage says "Your life is a precious gift from your parents, please think of your parents, siblings, and children. Don't keep it yourself, talk about your troubles". It also includes the contact number of Suicide Prevention Association, telling them that they can talk about their problems anytime.
In the parking area, there are abandoned cars. The owner of these cars seemed to be inside the forest and never came back. Most of the belonging of the victims are seen around the area. Tents, sleeping bags, bottles, umbrellas and many more. The point that some victims bring their own tent is that they're still struggling and hesitant if they want to die or not. They say that locals don't commit suicide here, not even children are allowed to visit near the area.
Found inside the forest is the path open for the public and another path where you aren't allowed to enter because you can get easily lost when you follow that trail. They say that more than 100 bodies are found here every year. Most of them are dead by hanging, some due to sleeping pills.
Strings are found inside the forest. They used to tie this in a trees along their way so that they can they can find their way out whenever they change their mind. But most of the time, they don't. In most cases, when you follow the strings, you will find something, It's either a trace that somebody is there or a dead body.
They say that the victims here are having a hard time coping up with the society. They say it's a torture for them. Suicide notes written on plywoods are the witness of this. Most of the people who come here are still hesitant to die. They leave traces and marks of hesitation and they stay for a while on the forest thinking if they want to die or not. Ropes are also found inside the forest. It is the creepiest thing you'll ever see. Rope that took the life of an individual who wants to be accepted in the society. Most of them decided to end their life by hanging and some are sleeping pills that is often successful most of the time. They don't die instantly, it takes them a day before they die because of weakness.
Skeletons are seen, too, as you go around the forest. This makes me think that why is it that in a progressive country like Japan, the percentage of suicide is so high that they even have a forest named for it. Maybe it's because of the modern day communication, internet, and social media which increases the peer pressure on every individual who thinks he/she wasn't special. And depression, too. I think we need to communicate face to face sometimes to remove the barrier and create a wonderful world that the humans were meant to live. A better world with a better understanding for every individual to prevent the increasing cases of suicide not just in Japan, but in the whole world.
