Everyone can be a victiom of depression including celebrities. We used to think that celebrities have perfect life. Fame, influence, popularity and money are the things that comes out on our mind whenever we mention about celebrities. We refuse the fact that most of them are struggling in different battles like family issues, addiction, and depression. Celebrities are humans too.They can feel, they can love , they are mortals and they can be hurt too.
They aren't exempted to fall as a victim of depression.
In terms of career, we admire them as an inspiration and wishing that one day, we will achieve whatever they reached. We consider them as the best as they prove it. But we cannot see is their life behind the camera that makes them far away from the roles that they play or the songs that they write. We cannot see their struggles of dividing their fame and personal life. Many celebrities are battling with depression. Some have made it and some have not. Some got into addiction. Some have harmed their selves and committed suicide.
Depression seems to be a silent killer because it's symptoms doesn't really show. Victims are hiding their emotions by the way that they smile and pretending that everything's alright. The people who has depression needs help from the people around them. They need someone to talk to and someone to lean on.
It's sad to talk about these things but we need to address this issue to help us understand what depressed people are going through. Depression isn't just a state of mind. It is a battle between life and death. Everyone of us should be aware of this and we need to understand each and everyone's struggle.
This article is going to discuss the six deaths of famous people because of suicide due to depression.
Celebrities Who Committed Suicide Due To Depression
1. Chester Bennington (March 20,1976 - July 20, 2017)
Chester is known as the lead singer of the rock band Linkin Park. He was first recognized by the public after the release of Linkin Park's debut album "Hybrid Theory". The band's success follows as they've released albums from Meteora (2003) to One More Light (2017). The band sold more than 65 million records worldwide. Despite of all of these success, a change to his personality was observed. He battled with depression that led him to alcohol and drug addiction. He was found dead on July 20, 2017 at his home in California. He ended his life by hanging.
2. Lucy Gordon ( May 22, 1980 - May 20, 2009)
She is an English actress and model. She appeared in different movies including The Four Feathers, Perfume, and Spider-man 3. She was first discovered by a talent spotter from a modeling academy as she and her mother visited a fashon show. After that, she appeared in different magazine covers before she moved to acting. Her major role includes the character of Sarah in Perfume and the reporter in Spider-man 3. Gordon was found dead on May 20, 2009, two days before her birthday, in Paris Flat. She took her own life by hanging, police says. Two suicide notes were found. One is detailing her wishes for her estate and the other one is a letter for her parents.
3. Kim Jong-hyun (April 8, 1990 - December 18, 2017)
Better known as Jonghyun. He is a vocalist of the boy group SHINee. He debuted as part of SHINee on May 25,2008. Recipient of multiple awards as well as nominations in South Korea. Their boy group became popular in South Korea and for all the Kpop lovers around the world. Despite of his band's success, he battled with depression that made him harm himself. Jonghyun, 27, died in the hospital for a suspected case of suicide. The police told Reuters that he was found unconscious next to burning briquettes on a frying pan inside a serviced residence in Seoul, South Korea. He harmed himself by the means of Carbon Monoxide poisoning. He even sent the final message to her sister saying to let him go. He is believed to be a victim of depression based on his last instagram post.
4. Chris Cornell ( July 20, 1964 - May 18, 2017)
He is the lead vocalist of Sound Garden and Audioslave. He was also the founder and the front man of Temple of the Dog. He sold more than 14 million albums, 8.8 million digital songs and 300 million audio streams in the US alone. Chris Cornell won twice in Grammy Awards and nominated 15 times. No wonder thath he has achieved a wonderful carrer in music but then depression comes along his way and turned his life into a nightmare. He was found dead on May 18, 2017 in his bathroom at the MGM Grand after the show with Sound Garden. The cause of the death was determined to be death by hanging. No drugs were found on Cornell's body. The only thing that's found is his medication including an antianxiety pill.
5. Robin Williams ( July 21, 1951 - August 11,2014)
He was an American stand-up comedian. He started comedy in the mid 1970's and performed as a stand-up comedian in San Francisco and Los Angeles. He established his career in comedy as a film actor in various movies including Jumanji and Night at the Museum. He won as the best supporting actor in 1997 Academy Awards for his appearance in the movie "Good Will Hunting". Aside from this, he received more awards and nominations that provea his talent and skills in comedy. Williams died due to suicide in August 11,2014. He was believed to be a victim of depression. His body was found in his house at Paradise Cay in California.
6. Kurt Cobain ( February 20, 1967 - April 5, 1994)
He was an American singer/songwriter. He formed the band "Nirvana" in the year 1987. Nirvana found their success with the song "Smell Like Teen Spirit" from their album "Nevermind". Despite of the Nirvana's success, Cobain battled with depression together with health problems and heroin addiction. He was having a hard time coping up with his fame and the pressure that surrounds him. On April 8, 1994, Cobain was found lifeless on his home at 171 Lake Washington Boulevard East, Seattle Washington. The police believe that he killed himself on April 5. He was found with a shotgun on his body and a suicide note nearby. The shotgun was used to shoot his head that led him to death.
As the list is shown above, It's not the fame, money, or influence that can stop anybody from being a victim of depression. Nobody can really tell their hardships in life because all we can see is their life in front of the camera and not behind. This is a wake up call for us to not to judge anybody by the way that they move, the way that they smile, and their attitude in front of the camera because they have a life to live, a live that they wanted to be free.
